Artist Statement

Around 2007 or so, Chuck approached me with his idea "Hani, I want to commission local artists to paint anything they want on an ostrich egg."  I looked at the raw egg and thought this would be very cool to paint on.  I liked the roughness of the surface and the fragility of the egg.

As an untrained self-taught artist, I have created an original style using faces and colors. For this project, I used acrylic paint and created 3 of my Faces.  I wanted to connect the Faces to merge into each other.  I then covered the egg with a few coats of gel gloss. This brought out the colors as well as a protection layer. As I see how the project has evolved, I am very proud to have been the first artist to be asked to contribute.
