Artist Statement

I sincerely appreciate being included in the                                  Art 360° Project : Contemporary Art Hatching Across Ohio. 

When first approached to paint an ostrich egg, I immediately was reminded by its shape and color of the vellum glaze pottery created by the Rookwood Pottery Company founded inCincinnati at the beginning of the 20th century. Those historic vases were decorated with ethereal subjects coated in a slightly hazy glaze.  As a painter who works exclusively from onsite observation, my intention was to create a snow scene reminiscent of the old vellum landscapes and stay true to on-location painting.  Fortunately, my studio window looks down a small hill and into a beautiful city park, allowing me to capture this familiar snowy landscape as the flakes finished falling.
